A few years back, I turned 40. I was actually pretty excited. My thirties were really hard work. My kids were young, my husband and I were growing our businesses. I was ready for my forties and reap the rewards. That was until life smacked me across the face when I was 41 with a cancer diagnosis. If that wasn’t enough, the business that I had been growing started changing and not for the better. All of sudden my forties weren’t the cake walk I was looking for.

Fortunately, my cancer was manageable and I am on the road to recovery. But really quickly I had to learn a few things. 1. If I don’t take care myself then I can’t possible take care of everyone else. and 2. Cancer can be a gift. That one was hard to understand. But through my journey I did find some gifts. My husband and I became closer and I realized that I had an incredible network of family and friends that came through for me.

Now, in my mid forties, my husband and I are starting new businesses raising two teenage girls and working hard to keep life in perspective. Aging is invetiable but how we age is up to us. In my head, I am still in my twenties but my body has started to throw hurdles at me. Aging is invetiable but how we age is up to us.
